About Me

I grew up in the Netherlands where I studied aeronautical engineering. Searching for a new adventure and following my passion in materials science, I went on to study my master's degree in Sweden where I now live with my wife and our dog. I decided to pursue my PhD. at Luleå University of Technology where I have been able to develop myself and my competences. Now that this great chapter of my life is coming to a close, I am looking for a new challenge where I can use my skills and apply my knowledge.

I have always had a great understanding and interest for all things technical. In my spare time, to my wife's chagrin, I take on all sorts of projects: from working on our cars and bicycles, to tying flies for fly fishing. Speaking of bicycles and fly fishing, I am a keen outdoorsman who thrives in the Swedish nature. I thoroughly enjoy cycling and fishing in the summer months. In the winter, I keep myself busy with cross-country skiing with and without our German Shorthaired Pointer: Freddy. He is the perfect companion for me in the forest and on the ski tracks. Training him has taught me so much about discipline and consistency but also creative problem solving.

While I think it’s tough to stay humble writing about yourself, I can say that I have a proactive and understanding attitude and I have a lot of patience and support for my students, my colleagues, and my friends. In school and later in life, it was always easy for me to get along with everyone. I am very approachable and friendly, and I don't judge people: I believe you can achieve great things by being true to yourself, by being honest and empathetic. My favorite saying comes from Dutch: "Doe normaal, dan be je al gek genoeg". This roughly translates to: "Act normal, then it is crazy enough". This means that I am true to myself, and I believe that is why people find it easy to work with me and to be open to me because my honesty reflects clearly.

I look forward to the next exciting chapter, ready to bring my technical expertise and adventurous spirit to new opportunities.
